With less than a month left until my wedding day, I decided I wanted to make a floral arch for our ceremony and to have as a backdrop for our reception seating. Fortunately, this project came together pretty quickly, and still left time for other last minute DIY projects! Check out the step by step process below!

Step 1 - Obtain Supplies For Your Floral Wedding Arch
For this project, I used a mixture of sola wood flowers and artificial flowers. I had previously done a bunch of research on what fake flowers are most realistic and chose sola wood flowers. Sola wood comes from the shola plant that grows quickly and abundantly in marshy areas. The plant can then be transformed into delicate flower shapes, either with the bark intact or bark removed. Once this occurs, sola wood flowers can be kept forever, making them an eco-friendly alternative to cut flowers. To help this project come together a bit more quickly, I also used some bulk artificial silk flowers to fill space.
What I used:
2 Piece Gold Arch from Amazon
1.5 packages of w hite pool noodles
1.5 packages of artificial hydrangeas
2 packages of artificial Italian ruscus greenery
2 packages of white delphinium
2 packages of artificial peonies
2 packages of artificial crown flowers
2 packages of cherry blossoms
1 package of artificial ivory roses
1 long eucalyptus stem from Hobby Lobby
Wood flowers from Sola Wood Flowers. I used about 20 wood flowers on each half of the arch, with an assortment of some large, medium, and small flowers to fill gaps.
A note about sola wood flowers- once your flowers have arrived, you will want to open the packaging as soon as you can to help prevent moisture from accumulating. This will prevent any issues with molding. Check out my other posts for more details about how to prep, dye, and stem sola flowers.
Step 2 - Assemble Gold Arch
Once your arch arrives in the mail, assemble according to package directions.
Step 3 - Attach Pool Noodles to Arch
After assembling your metal arch, you will want to attach your pool noodles. This will become the base for how we attach the flowers.
Cut one pool noodle in half and use the zip ties to attach to the base of each half of the arch.

Cut 2 pool noodles to the length of the straight portion of the arch and zip tie together. I placed a zip tie around either end of each noodle and then zip tied the ends together. Then zip tie to the arch.

Take the leftover pieces of pool noodles and zip tie together. Then attach to the top of each arch.

Step 4 - Build Your Floral Wedding Arch
Now it is time to build your arch! I started with adding hydrangeas to fill a large volume of space.

Then start adding your other flower types and greenery to fill in the gaps. You can add each type of flower in a triangle pattern for a visually appealing look.

Finally, add your sola wood flowers to add some dimension and fullness.

You did it!
Congrats, you have made a gorgeous floral arch for your wedding ceremony or seating backdrop! After taking some time to admire your work, you can cross this off the list and start your next DIY project :) I can't wait to see what you have created!
